Fascinating how the books and maps reflect the society and purpose of the time - namely that the castles and cathedrals are the main features. I think that based on the knowledge of the time, the fact that you can recognise the different parts of the world is still remarkable.

What a fascinating piece of art. Though you comment that it doesn't win any awards for accurate geography, I suspect the people living at that time thought it very accurate. And I love the fact that it has the Orient at the top, illustrated with dragons and other monsters to indicate the unknown!
